6-15-10 " Now for something completely different"
Almost a year ago to the day, Nave Strauss and I began recording an EP of songs he had been cataloging during our years of higher education. These were some tunes we jammed on during our summer and winter breaks, usually beginning with Nave saying something along the lines of "Hey, check out what I've been working on." This would inevitably lead us to spend hours co-writing different guitar parts, vocal harmonies, percussion, and whatever else we thought would fit. It's basically the same process we have had for writing music since the 8th grade, and we continue have the same sort of process when we write together today. We may have gotten older, our music more complex, but that spark of creation and feeling of excitement is still there.
Anyway, the tune on the audio player above is one of those songs that I can remember Nave showing me for the first time a number of years ago. It's called Shore is in Sight, and it was recorded mainly last summer and fall in a wonderful little studio in Huntington, Long Island. That EP has not been finished, and the fate of those recordings is honestly, yet to be known. We have played this tune many times in live sets, and it is one of my favorites I've ever had the honor to say I had a part in creating. Whether the EP becomes a finished product or not, I want people to hear Shore is in Sight, even in its raw, mainly un-edited and un-mastered state (listen carefully, and you can hear conversations in the background, and other things that we havn't yet edited out of the mix).
Nave wrote and recorded the lyrics, most of the guitar tracks, the piano , and bass. I lent my minor talents on drums, percussion, and some of the guitar work. Tom Licamelli was the man behind the recording controls, and clapped with us on beat 4 in the last part of the song.
Enjoy, and if you see Nave around Queens or at a show, tell him Shore is in Sight sounds awesome.

Here's a video clip from last month's show at The Piazza in Philly.

5-17-10 Saturday Wrap-up
Huge thanks to our friends that trecked into Philly for the Geekadelphia's Fiesta Movement free concert at the Piazza. It was a ton of fun, the weather was incredible, and the crowd was cool (even while jammed directly in front of the huge TV that had the Phillies game on). It was great to play live with Chizz, and he filled those awkward gaps I create with my often lack of banter, with witty comments of nonsense. Mikey and Tim from Geekadelphia, if you guys see this, thanks for the opportunity, you guys are cool bunch.
There are many pictures and even some video from Saturday that should be up shortly.
Next stop: Milkboy Coffee up in Ardmore. See you there!
5-13-10 Always Punny in Philadelphia
Hey,
So, long time-no talk.
It's been very busy since moving down to Wilmington from New York. To make a long story short, I havn't been able to work on too much music. Aside from a rogue gig back in Manhattan, and jamming with Nave at a coffeehouse in Brooklyn, it's been quiet. Until a few weeks ago, when I landed a spot at the up and coming Philadelphia musician's staple, North Star Bar. As things are winding down for the summer, the music seems to be picking up again, and the momentum has been building very suddenly.
With that being said, I managed to get a gig opening for two rising bands from the Philly area. This Saturday I'll be at The Piazza at Shmidt's in Northern Liberties, with my roomate and good friend Kyle Chismar playing percussion. I have been acclamating myself over the past few months with the city of Philadelphia, and its proving to be more than just New York's angry little brother (hehe. NY'er fo' life). In fact, I dare do say, I'm starting to like it there. I mean, hey, they're letting me open at a major free concert at a really cool outdoor plaza, in the most musical section of the city.
To say the least, I'm very excited about this Saturday. If you're in the area, come down to the Piazza around 6 p.m. It's going to be a great time, and if all that I hear is true, this will by far be the biggest gig I have done thusfar.
I hope this is the beginning of a great relationship, Philadelphia.
